Key injury news and notes from around the NHL

Anaheim Ducks

Viktor Fasth was injured in warm-ups over the weekend and had to leave with a lower body injury. Bad news for his fantasy owners, although the Ducks have about 15 other capable NHL goalies – they’ll be fine.

He is expected to miss 3 to 4 weeks which means you should bump up the value of Frederik Andersen during that time.

Chicago Blackhawks

Marian Hossa missed Saturday’s game against Vancouver because of a family matter. There is no guarantee that he’ll be back for the Hawks next game, so this is something to monitor throughout the week.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Brandon Dubinsky is still out with a bruised foot and judging from reports could still be a week or more away. Injuries to a player’s feet can be tricky, sometimes lingering throughout the season. Let’s hope that’s not the case here – he is off to a nice start with 5 goals, 10 assists, 40 penalty minutes and 49 shots through 21 games.

Detroit Red Wings

Pavel Datysuk took an elbow to the head from the Senators Jared Cowan.  He is listed as day-to-day and the expectation is that this is only precautionary. The issue is that concussions (not saying this is one) can be incredibility difficult to predict. I would keep him firmly out of your lineup until more information is released.

Minnesota Wild

Mikael Granlund missed Saturday’s game due to an upper body injury and is listed as day-to-day. He’ll never be a multi-category star but remains a nice sleeper option in points leagues.

Phoenix Coyotes

Martin Hanzal had to leave Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return. It has been a breakout year for the 26 year old – 19 points in the first 20 games. He was drafted 17th overall in 2005 (you know I love draft pedigree) which makes me believe he could keep producing. Assuming he is back soon a 55 point season is attainable.

Tampa Bay Lightning

It might not be quite as big as the Stamkos injury but I’m sure many of you were sad to hear that Radko Gudas is out. He suffered an upper body injury during a fight with Luca Sbisa over the weekend - you can watch the video here. He is listed as day-to-day, meaning you’ll have to look elsewhere for your nearly 3 penalty minutes per contest.
